IPfire hardware router for VPN, firewall

Although IPfire can be virtualized like an ordinary operating system, a 'real firewall' should always run on physical hardware, as network performance makes the difference. See below our hardware recommendation for IPfire.


IPfire hardware Recommendation

The following overview shows IPfire minimum requirements which are nowadays only recommended in a test environment. For a productive deployment you better follow our hardware recommendation for IPfire.

Hardware configuration and prices

The hardware we provide is tested with IPfire. The table shows the measured TCP throughput, with associated CPU and network card after the default installation.

IPfire software

IPFire is operable via an intuitive webinterface, which offers a lot of options for beginners and even experienced administrators. IPFire is an open source Linux distribution that acts primarily as a router and firewall, with a web-based user interface for configuration.

IPFire is based on Linux from Scratch. The basic system is relatively slim, services such as: DHCP server, VPN based on IPSec / OpenVPN, firewall filters can be activated / deactivated. Pakfire, the Pakage package management system, can be used to install extensions and updates.


Hardware for IPfire

The hardware we offer is tested with IPfire for compatibility and TCP throughput. The table above shows the measured TCP throughput after the default installation.

IPfire can be installed on any compatible hardware by the customer. The hardware with usual UEFI BIOS can boot over the network or from a USB stick. If you wish, we can deliver the hardware with pre-installed IPfire.

In standard Firewall hardware is available as mini PC (aluminum case) and rack version 19 inch 1U , see pictures.
